A New Strategy in Retirement Planning: The In-Marriage QDRO®

This webinar is made available to FSP members and Guardian FRs through the generosity of
The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America

Program Overview

Previously viewed as an estate planning or financial tool only for divorcing couples, the qualified domestic relations orders (QDRO) is starting to gain national attention as an option for married couples as well. The strategy, known as the In-Marriage QDRO®, incorporates the ability of spouses to contract under state law with the enforcement mechanism of a QDRO under federal law. In this program you will learn how to utilize an in-marriage QDRO to help married couples gain unrestricted, unpenalized access to their retirement for broader investment and estate planning options.

You will learn:

  • How both state and federal laws authorize married couples to use QDROs for access to retirement benefits
  • How access to retirement benefits allows for unique planning opportunities in both the financial and legal arenas

Featured Speaker:

Stephanie Prestridge, JD is the owner of Lineage Law, an estate planning law firm with offices across Louisiana.  Stephanie graduated magna cum laude from Louisiana College in 1998 and completed her legal studies at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2004.  While in law school, she was invited to participate in the Loyola Law Review and was a member of the International Law Moot Court team.  Stephanie spent the first few years of her career litigating business, insurance, and family law matters, until she discovered the field of estate planning when her grandfather became ill and required nursing home care.  That experience forced her to rethink her personal goals as a legal professional, and to focus her practice solely on helping families with estate planning and related legal issues. Stephanie is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association and the Trusts, Estate, Probate & Immovable Property Section, the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils.  She is also on the Board of the Louisiana Bar Foundation Kids’ Chance Scholarship Program.  She has been admitted to practice law in the State of Louisiana since 2005.  Additionally, Stephanie is a partner in In Marriage QDRO, LLC.
