In this session, Steve Parrish, JD, CLU, ChFC, RHU, will give an overview of his March Insurance & Risk Management column, “The Life Insurance Agent as Financial Planner.” He will point to two emerging trends occurring with the insurance and risk management aspects of financial planning: life insurance agents becoming financial advisors, and the transition of financial planning from a sales model to an advisory model.  He contends that these trends are a positive development for consumers. As more life insurance agents become financial planners and more financial planners become fiduciaries, there will be a move away from portfolios and products toward planning and professionalism. The whole area of insurance and risk management has the potential to be better integrated into financial planning.
