FSP’s Hartford Chapter Recognized for Achieving Financial Security Initiative

Hartford, Connecticut – The Hartford Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals was named “Most Helpful Resource for 2017” by Northeast Christians at Work for the Chapter’s series of Achieving Financial Security forums held at several churches throughout the Hartford area.

Achieving Financial Security (AFS), created through the vision of FSP President-Elect Elvin D. Turner, JD, MBA, is designed to provide underserved communities with access to reliable information on building financial well-being. The program pulls together a multidisciplinary panel of experts—financial planner, accountant, attorney, retirement specialist, insurance professional—to ensure participants are provided with comprehensive planning guidance.

The Hartford Chapter, under Mr. Turner’s leadership, held three AFS seminars, starting in September 2016 and running through May 2017. Each program was geared to a different age demographic. The first held at the Apostolic Fellowship Church in Bloomfield focused on issues faced by individuals aged 18 to 35; the second program, hosted by Bethel Church, covered issues faced by individuals in the 36-50 age bracket; and the final program, held at the First Cathedral in Bloomfield, addressed planning challenges of those over age 50.

“One of the joys of the AFS program,” according to Mr. Turner, “was the buy-in and engagement of the Hartford Chapter members.” He commended the leadership Kevin Baldwin, CLU, ChFC, and Sue Lampas, FMLI, ACS, for their efforts in all aspects of ensuring three successful events.

Northeast Christians at Work is an all-volunteer, nonprofit group of Christian laypeople who joyfully donate their time, talent and treasure to help to make Christianity relevant to millions of employers and employees across the Northeastern USA.

Joe Frack, CEO, of the Society of FSP, congratulated the Hartford Chapter for this well-deserved recognition stating, “This honor by Northeast Christians at Work is a wonderful affirmation of the generous hearts of our FSP members and the good work being done through the AFS program.”
